FedEx – extremely convenient

Like many American drug stores, FedEx can take the picture and print the photos for you at the same time. Their personnel are trained and skilled, and you should be able to get an acceptable photo fast. But additionally, they can also print out the passport application form (the DS-11 or the DS-82) for you and photocopy all your supporting documents (like birth certificate, marriage certificate, and driver’s license). This makes your local FedEx Office a very convenient and attractive option.

What makes them even more convenient is that FedEx Office locations typically stay open much later than Post Office locations, and you don’t need an appointment to go in and get the job done. FedEx is also usually open at weekends, as well. However, passport photo services are not offered at all FedEx Office locations, so double-check before you go.

Pictures same cost as post office

The cost of having FedEx Office take and print your passport pictures is about $15 USD, which is the same that you will pay at the U.S. Post Office. However, unlike the Post Office, your FedEx Office location is NOT a Passport Acceptance Facility. So if this is your first passport or if your expired passport is more than 5 years past its expiration date, you will still need to submit the DS-11 passport application form in person at an official Passport Acceptance Facility. An Acceptance Facility is most commonly a US Post Office, but it can also be in other locations near you such as your county clerk’s office.

If you are renewing an existing or a soon-to-expire passport and are eligible to renew by mail, then using FedEx Office can save you a trip to the Post Office. Your friendly FedEx clerk will take your picture and print it out, photocopy your supporting documents, print up your DS-82 passport renewal form, and send the whole thing off to the passport office via overnight shipping for a package price. Be aware that the package prices start at $109 for the full-service deal, which is kind of expensive.

FedEx also offers expedited passport renewals for those who are in a serious hurry, but their prices for this service are pretty serious, too. Expedited service starts at $189 and goes up from there.

It’s even cheaper if you take your own photo

If you want to save some money, or if your nearest FedEx Office location does not offer passport photo service, you can have FedEx Office print out an existing passport photo for you. Bring in your recent color photograph on a USB drive, and they can print it onto glossy photograph paper for less than a couple of bucks. FedEx will make sure it’s the right size, with proper contrast and saturation.

All you have to do when providing your own passport photo is to make sure that the image itself is suitable for passport picture purposes: shoot the picture using diffused natural light in front of a plain white background. Comb your hair back, take off your hat and glasses, and don’t smile. There are quite a few important considerations that go into getting a good passport photo, and having a bad picture is actually the number one reason a passport application gets denied. If you need some help taking your own passport photograph, there are some online toolsyou can use.

Passport Photo Online

Using an online app such as Passport Photo Online takes the guesswork out of getting the perfect picture, and for a much lower price than your local drug store or big box store. Just load your pic into the app, and it scans the image for suitability (no hair in your eyes, no smiles or funny expressions on your face). If the AI detects an acceptable picture, the application will crop the photo to the perfect dimensions.

Best of all, the background removal tool will replace the original background with the uniform white background required by the U.S. Department of State! It’s pretty cool. It’s also fast, cheap and easy, and guaranteed to work.Take as many photo shots as you need to create your best picture—there’s no extra charge.

Download your perfect passport picture and then take the JPEG file to your convenient FedEx Office location; they will print it out—and congratulations, you just saved yourself over 10 (ten) dollars! While you’re there, take advantage of FedEx Office’s other services to print out your passport application and other required documentation, and to ship it all off to the National Passport Information Center.
