Henley Hungary Passport Index

The Henley Passport Index is based on the data of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). It gives information about the visa-free destinations of a country in the world and one can compare the data, search for a particular country’s requirements etc. In this Index Hungary has the 10th position in the world in 2021, which is a really impressive rank. It means that Hungarian have the possibility to travel to 182 visa-free destinations.

Countries that allow a Visa on Arrival for Hungarians

You can apply for this visa at different airports of a particular country, where you arrive and enter the country. You need to fill in an official application form and pay the fee. How to apply for a Visa as a Hungarian citizen

If one wants to travel to a country, which requires a visa, but does not offer the possibility of an electronic application, the person needs to go to the Embassy of the particular country in Hungary in person. For this you need to have an appointment.

There are some countries that do not have an Embassy in Hungary. In these cases, you can turn to other Embassies that can be found closest to Hungary. These Embassies can help with preparing the required documents. There are also cases, when a country has an Embassy only in one country in Europe, usually in Brussels.
After making an appointment, you need to give your personal data, fill in the application form, pay the fee, and submit a passport photo.

If the list does not include your country, you need a Schengen visa, since Hungary is a member of the Schengen Area. The rules concerning visas are the same as the ones in other member states, which are: 

Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden) as well as Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Lichtenstein

The possible duration in one of these countries is 90 days. After that you are required to have a residence permit. You can apply for a visa at a Hungarian Embassy or consulate. In case it is not possible, you should turn to one of the Embassies, which represent a country belonging to the Schengen area. The application process and the required documents are the same as the ones mentioned above. The details can vary depending on the specific country.
