Excellent service. Very good software that enhanced our photos. They also did a manual check and had me redo one of the pictures for free. I have only used online passport photos for more than 10 years. This is by far the best.

Japanese residence card photo

A residence card shall be issued to a foreign national who has been resident in Japan for a short or long time as a result of obtaining a residence permit, such as a new landing permit, a change of residence permit and an extension of the residence permit period. Accordingly, a citizenship card has the essence of a certificate in which the Minister of Justice proves that the foreign national concerned is legally resident in Japan with residential status.

What is a biometric photo

A biometric photo is a photo that is required for some documents as an attachment to an application. These documents can be a residence card, an identity card, a driving license or a passport. Biometric photography is a special type of photography that seeks to enhance all the biometric features of the person's face in the photo. All this in order for the biometric program to identify the person in the pictures easily and accurately.

A biometric photo will always be required when applying for official documents. You must have a properly made biometric photo that meets the official criteria. Want to know the criteria for photos for Japanese residence cards? In the guide below, you will find all the necessary requirements.

Japanese residence card - Official requirements

Like every other document, a residence card photo has its own requirements that must be met in order to be accepted by the relevant authorities. If there is even a small mistake in a biometric photo, chances are that it can be denied and you would have to go through the process again. Do not worry though, we are here to help. Find below the Japanese residence card photo requirements that will help you in your application.

Size of the photo

A japanese residence card photo must have a size of 30mm x 40mm in width and height. Make sure that head height from the top of the hair is 25mm and distance from top the of the photo to the top of the hair is 6mm.

Background of the photo and lighting

A Japanese residence card photo must have a plain white background. Other colors will not be accepted. Also make sure to avoid any objects in the background.

As for lighting its best to take the picture in natural light because you have to avoid shadows. You can position yourself by a window and have someone else take the photo for you. Make sure that they stand at least 1 meters away from you.

Quality of the photo

The picture must have a resolution of at least 600DPI. Make sure that it's in focus and not blurry. Maintain proper photo quality or print it on high quality paper. The photo should be in colors and not black and white. Also, check whether the photo has scratches or is damaged. If it is you will have to redo it because otherwise it will not be accepted.

Face on the photo

You must have a neutral facial expression. It would be best to not smile. Make sure to look directly at the camera lens and do not tilt or lower your head. Another thing you should keep in mind is to refrain from having the effect of red eyes. Also, keep your mouth closed and not open.

What to wear on the photo

There are no specific dress code provisions, but the only restriction applies to uniforms - in your residence card photo , you do not have to wear a uniform. With certain exceptions, hats are not allowed. A religious cover can be approved by the office if the applicant obtains the appropriate certificate.

Accessories and make-up

In the Japanese Residence Permit photo, you can use contact lenses, but sunglasses and dark lenses are not permitted. As they should be clearly visible, glasses should not cover your eyes. The reflections should not be present on the lens. You need to make sure you do not go too far down the sides of the glasses and do not cover half of the eye.

The makeup is totally adjustable and has no special specifications.

Most Commonly made mistakes

If you want to get your residence permit fast, note that the primary reason for the rejection of applications every year is incorrect images. Beware of mistakes, regardless of whether you are uploading a digital photo or submitting a printed one.

Top common mistakes are:

  • Tilted head
  • Mouths being open and smiles present
  • Mistakes in the background such as color and objects present
  • Quality of the photo is not good. Make sure that its resolution is at least 600DPI
  • Bad quality of the paper. Photos should be printed at high quality paper with no scratches or whatsoever.

Validation of the photo

The list of photo rules for Japan's residence permit is not lengthy but must be strictly obeyed. Do not risk rejection if you are not sure whether your photograph is right or not. You can upload it to our online photo maker, and let it be checked by high technology. It's better than it sounds to you. What is a Japanese residence card?

A residency card shall be granted to a foreign national who has resided in Japan for a short to long period of time as a result of obtaining permits relating to the status of residence, such as a new landing permit, a change of residence permit, and an extension of the period of residence permit. Also, a residence permit issued upon receiving a residence permit rather than a landing permit often has the character of being a written permit, serving as a formal permit instead of a seal for different permits previously attached to a passport.
