How to renew an Italian passport in the UK: adult passports

The first thing you need to take care of while renewing your Italian passport abroad is your Prenot@mi Account. If you don’t have your profile yet, follow the instructions on the website and set up an account. There, you’ll find all the necessary information about your passport and supporting documents.

Your Prenot@mi account is absolutely essential for booking passport appointments abroad. So, to renew your Italian passport in the UK, you must have access to the system. Moreover, before starting your application, ensure that your birth certificate has been formally registered with the Italian authorities—if not, it must be attached to your application.

Depending on your residency area, you can apply at your local Italian Consulate in Manchester, Edinburgh, or London. You’re eligible to apply there only if you’re registered in the AIRE system.

There are two ways through which you can book an appointment for your Italian passport renewal:

Here’s a checklist of your documents for Italian passport renewal in the UK:

✅ Two recent (taken within six months) Italian passport photos compliant with the international ICAO standards. Please note that the Consulate accepts only white-background pictures

✅ Your current passport

Note 1: If your passport has been lost or stolen, you must identify with a national ID card or another original passport. You must also submit a British Police online report and the Italian lost/stolen passport form ETD1-DEN1.

There are different consular services depending on the child’s age. The list of documents remains the same—the only difference is in the payment method, depending on whether you’ll receive your child’s passport on the spot, during the appointment, or via post.

If your children are 11 or younger, the only way to renew their Italian passport in the UK is by post. Here’s what you must include in your package:

1. A passport form MOD2 for children aged 0–11, completed in capital letters and signed by both parents. Important: If one of the parents is a non-EU national, they must provide their passports and have their signatures verified.
2. A passport photo authentication form AFT2.
3. Three passport photos.
4. The child’s previous passport.
5. Photocopies of valid IDs of the child’s parents or guardians.
6. Postal order and a special delivery envelope.

Italian passport renewal in the UK: minors aged 12–17

Parents or guardians have three options for renewing their children’s Italian passports:

2. Afternoon appointments (documents sent via post).

Italian passport renewal: price & waiting times

The price for your Italian passport renewal in the UK stays the same for all types of passports. Under the current exchange rates, the price remains at £101.50 until March 31, 2024 (or until March 15, 2024 for children’s passports). There’s also a £1.00 fee for each debit card transaction.

The waiting times for your new passport (or your child’s passport) depend on the type of renewal process. Here’s the list of different wait times for Italian passports in the UK:

• Adult and children’s passports—morning appointments: Issued on the spot during the appointment
• Adult and children’s passports—afternoon appointments: 2–3 weeks (delivered by post)
