To renew a Colombian passport in the US, the first thing you have to do is find your nearest consular office.

According to the Ministry of Foreign affairs, to renew a Colombian passport in the US, you have to provide:
- your Cédula de Ciudadanía Colombiana;
- your old passport, with two copies of the first page (bio page);
- 3 (three) 3.5 x 4.5 cm passport photos.
On the day of the appointment, go to the Consulate with your supporting documents and fill out the application form with your personal information. The clerk will inspect and process your documents right away and proceed with the payment.
To renew a Colombian passport, you’ll have to pay a total of $140 for a standard passport book, $204 for a machine-readable executive passport, and $116 for an emergency passport. You can pay by PSE, if you have a Colombian account for electronic payments, however, the consulates will also accept money orders.
Once the procedure is completed, the consular personnel will give you a receipt with the date on which you can pick up your new passport. Since passports, and all other documents, are processed in Bogota, you’ll have to wait for 8 (eight) days to get yours back.

To renew the passport of a Colombian citizen under 18 (eighteen) years of age, the Consulate will ask for a few additional documents:
- birth certificate/report of birth abroad;
- national ID card, if they are over 7 (seven) years old;
