Every Haitian national has the possibility to renew their passport in the US, just by presenting the appropriate documents to a Consulate General or Embassy of Haiti.

The process you need to go through is not extremely different from the one you would follow in your country, with some extra documents.

Renew a Haitian passport – required documents

To renew your Haitian passport, you’ll need to provide the consular officer with the following documents:

• Your original birth certificate or an extract from the National Archives of Haiti, or a copy of the birth certificate
• Your previous passport
• A valid form of ID  (two if you can’t provide your old passport)
• Two passport photos (in color, white background, not older than 3 months)
• If you are a married woman, you’ll need to provide an original marriage certificate
• If you are divorced, you’ll need a divorce certificate
• If you are a widow, you’ll need your spouse’s death certificate
• Minors need a parental authorization signed by a parent or a legal guardian
• If your passport was lost or stolen, you will need to provide a police report

Just book an appointment on the phone or via email and gather the documents. On the agreed-upon day, turn in your paperwork and complete the necessary application form.

Remember to contact the National Archives sufficiently in advance to get your birth certificate.

When applying for a Haitian passport, you will have specific options for the payment method. Cash and personal checks are unacceptable, however, debit and credit card, money order, Cashier’s check, and Certified check are all viable options.

For an adult, passport renewal will cost $145, for a minor $120. There will be an additional $30 for shipping and processing fees in both cases.

Your passport will be ready in about 60 business days. If you need to get it in a shorter time, you can have it delivered in 30 days, by paying an additional $30, or in 20 days for $70.

Where to renew a Haitian passport

To renew your Haitian passport in the USA, you’ll have to refer to the nearest Consulate or Embassy. The Embassy of Haiti in Washington DC is the main office, you will also be able to find 6 (six) other consulates in the rest of the country.

You will have to book an appointment date at the one that covers your area. Keep in mind that not all of them have internet sites, sometimes, you will have to make an appointment on the phone.
