Ireland visa photo requirements
The photo for a visa application in Ireland must meet certain requirements:
- Printed on photographic paper
- A plain light-coloured background (white or light grey)
- A neutral facial expression with the mouth closed
- The visa photo must be in colour
- The photo must have a sharp focus and natural colours
- Shadows or glare are to be avoided in the image
- The head must be centred with the eyes looking straight at the camera
- The visa photo must show the applicant from head to mid-torso
For an Irish visa application, two passport-style photos of the applicant must be handed in. They have to be identical and less than 6 months old. Make sure the visa photo is in compliance with all the requirements, as the application will otherwise be delayed.
Ireland visa photo size
The photo for a visa application in Ireland must be 45-50 mm in height and 35-38 mm in width, with the face taking up 70% to 80% of the photo. Your head and shoulders must be fully visible in the Irish visa photo.
Ireland visa photo resolution
Irish visa photos must be of high quality, not pixelated and no less than 715 pixels wide and 951 pixels in height. The visa photo must be in focus, with balanced lighting and colour, no red-eye effect, natural skin tones and no larger than 9 MB when uploaded digitally.
Glasses in the Ireland visa photo
It is permitted to wear glasses in Irish visa photos, as long as they do not obscure the eyes in any way. Make sure there is no glare or reflection and the frame does not partially cover the eyes.
Make sure to avoid sunglasses or tinted/coloured glasses in your visa photo.
Ireland visa photo head and hair covering
Hats, caps, scarves, headbands and other accessories are not allowed on Irish visa photos, except for religious or medical reasons. If you do wear a head covering for religious reasons, your face must be fully visible.
Background colour required for the Ireland visa photo
The background of an Irish visa photo must be plain, light-coloured (white or light grey), and without any patterns or shadows. In addition to this, there must be a good contrast between the facial features and the background. So as not to blend into the background, be sure not to wear clothing that is too light.
There should not be any objects or people in the background, only the applicant should be visible in the visa photo.
Ireland visa photo clothing
Everyday clothing like a plain t-shirt, blouse or collared shirt is acceptable for an Irish visa photo. Avoid wearing tank tops, tube tops and clothing showing your shoulders.
Civil and military uniforms as well as attire bearing any kind of insignia are not permitted on Irish visa photos.
