Digital photo requirements

Your digital photo must meet all the irish passport photo requirements:

• Face expression must be neutral, mouth closed
• Passport photo size must not be larger than 9MB
• Should not be distorted
• Background must be Light grey, cream or white color (no other objects allowed, like doors, windows etc.))
• Passport photo size must be 715 pixels wide and 951 pixels height
• Must have JPEG format
• Must be in color

Child photos

A very young child or an infant must be laid down on the pure light and plain surface and then photographed, as no supporting arms, hands should be visible on the background.

• Pacifiers, soothers etc are not allowed on the photo

Lightning

• ”Red eyed” photos are not acceptable
• Lightning and color must be in balance (not too dark and not too light)
• Natural skin tone
• Photo must be in focus

Distance

• Photo must not be taken from too far away.
• Space between your head and shoulders should be visible.
• Do not wear uniforms (military or civil).Clothing must be casual without visible logos.
• Accessories such as headphones, sunglasses, hats are not permitted.
• Head cover for medical and religious reasons is allowed.

Submitting your photo

To submit your application with a irish passport photo using Passport Online government services please follow these steps:

• Save your photo and transfer it to your PC.
• If your smart device settings allow you to upload the picture and email it please do so, otherwise use laptop or pc.
• On the photo preview page you can rotate the photo to adjust it.
• Once you have submitted your photo, you must wait for it’s approval.
