ID Photo Size for Singapore—All You Need To Know
Attention, Singaporeans! Are you preparing for an ID application? The photo you submit is more than just a formality—it’s the key to validating your identity. Let’s dive into the essential guidelines to ensure your photo stands out for all the right reasons.
Singapore ID photo requirements
Navigating through the maze of ID photo requirements can be daunting. But fear not! We’ve distilled the essentials, so your application sails through without a hitch.
- Size and dimensions: Your photo must have a minimum pixel size of 400x514 px at 290 DPI
- Digital specifications: With new ID card applications and renewals requiring online submission via the eServices portal, save your photo in either JPG, JPEG or PNG file format, no larger than 2 MB in size
- Background: Simplicity is key. A plain white background without shadows or patterns is a must for your photo to be accepted
- Dress code: Wear everyday clothes or dress to impress—the choice is up to you. The only requirement is avoiding clothes that blend into the white background, so select an outfit that sufficiently contrasts your skin tone
- Facial expression and position: A neutral expression with a closed mouth and a direct gaze into the camera is mandatory
- Headgear & accessories: You can wear headgear only for religious or medical reasons, but it shouldn’t obscure your face. Glasses are allowed but must remain glare-free and cannot obscure the eyes
- Hairstyles & makeup: Be you, naturally. Hairstyles should not cover or cast shadows over your face, and makeup should be minimal, reflecting your everyday appearance
- Recency: Your photo should be no older than three months—a recent snapshot of your current appearance
📝 Please note: Since 2020, the Immigration and Checkpoint Authority (ICA) no longer accepts hardcopy application forms for Singapore ID Cards. You must submit an online application (and a digital ID photo) via eServices for the registration or re-registration of your identity document.
Ensure your photo ticks all the boxes by getting our professional photo tool available on Android or iOS—compliance with ICA standards is guaranteed, or you’ll receive double your money back!
Good and simple. I needed a photo ID. The process is simple in my opinion. Upload the photo. It is biometrically checked and accepted by the authorities. I will use the service again next time.
