Ukraine is becoming an increasingly frequent travel destination. Find out what documents you need and how to move safely on Ukrainian roads.
Planning a trip – Visa to Ukraine?
To check if you need a visa to travel to Ukraine, visit the website of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. If you do not need a visa, you can stay in Ukraine for up to 90 days within a period of 6 months upon one of these two documents:
- ID card – it should be in good technical condition, allowing the officials to verify your identity. The photograph on the ID card should be up-to-date and taken in accordance with the applicable official requirements.
- Passport – like an ID card, this document should also be in good technical condition. When crossing the Ukrainian border, you should hold a passport that will be valid for at least 6 months counting from the day of your arrival in Ukraine.
The document authorizing to enter the territory of Ukraine is the so-called migration document. It is obtained at the border crossing point upon payment of a fee to a customs official. The document should be kept intact during the whole stay in Ukraine. Its loss or destruction may result in a fine of up to 100 UAH.
Ukrainian Employment Visa
Unfortunately, the willingness to work in Ukraine means the necessity to obtain an employment visa (D-type visa). This visa entitles you to work in Ukraine for 90 days (the exact time of stay and the number of entries is determined individually by the Ukrainian authorities). The documents necessary to apply for the Ukrainian visa are: a valid passport (for at least 6 months), a visa application, as well as a written statement on the possession of sufficient funds to stay in Ukraine. The procedure for obtaining a visa also includes an interview with a consular officer (it can be done online via the website of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
The next step after receiving the document will be to obtain a residence permit in Ukraine. This document can be obtained from the authorities of the State Migration Service of Ukraine.
Travel to Ukraine by car
If you want to travel by car, you must carry a passport, driving license, vehicle registration certificate, car insurance and the so-called Green Card (International Motor Insurance Card). It is worth knowing that if the driver is not the owner of the vehicle he drives, they should have a written consent from the owner of the vehicle, certified by a notary public.
