The demanded dimensions for a passport photo in the Republic of Lithuania are 35 mm width x 45 mm height. Leave 3-5 mm of space between the top of the head and the edge of the photo. The head must be positioned in a central spot of the image. It cannot be too big or too small. You do not know how to obtain such a crop? That is easy! Go to the PhotoAiD App and have it done! Once you upload the picture, our program automatically resizes and crops the image to the required dimensions.
Even if you have passport-style photos taken a year or more ago, you cannot use them for your new passport application.
The biometric passport photo must represent your current appearance so it cannot be taken more than 6 months before you submit your passport application. But the good news is that once you get a passport-style photo with our Lithuanian Passport Photo Maker you may use it as many times as you want during the next 6 months. Maybe you want to apply for the ID card together with your passport? After ordering a photo template on our website, you will receive it in your email in JPEG format. You can upload it to different online applications or print it if you wish.
You can do your photo of the Lithuanian Passport everywhere - at your place, on the street, in the park, etc. You do not need to take it professionally and overpay to a professional photographer. Instead, you can ask somebody or use a tripod (keep in mind, that selfies are not allowed) and in a couple of moments create a perfect passport-style picture. Of course, that photo must meet certain requirements, so you can need some little help.
If you are not sure how to resize a picture and you are not keen on graphic programs, why not take a look at our automatically cropping and resizing the Lithuania Passport photo app?

Take a while and read our short guidelines. In 5 minutes you will know:
What must be visible in your passport-style photo? Only your face, neck, area around the collarbone and upper part of the shoulders. Remember: your head with hair must take 70-80% of the whole photo and it must be only an en-face view. Profile views, semi-profile views etc. are not accepted. Also, selfies and photos with filters are not acceptable.
As mentioned above, the size of the image must be 35 mm x 45 mm.
We advise you to use the Passport Photo Resizer and Cropper which will adjust your image to requirements.
There are strict requirements for the background of the biometric photos. In the case of the Lithuanian Passport Photo, it must be white and plain. “Plain” means “with no patterns nor shadows”. It may not be easy to obtain but you should not be worried about it. Just check out the background removing passport photo tool which will prepare your perfect picture in a few seconds. It does not matter if you have taken your picture in your living room, garden, or on the beach. The removal of a wrong background with an online photo app and changing it into a required white one is easy and quick. Just upload your picture to the Online Photo App.
As the Lithuanian Passport Photo must be biometric, it is a bit similar to a mugshot. The candidate must not smile nor make faces.
The specification calls it “a neutral facial expression”. It means that you need to close your mouths (but don’t tighten them), open your eyes and relax your facial muscles. Look straight at the camera. Do not tilt your head in any direction, make sure that the camera lens is on the level of your eyes. Smiling, frowning or making grimaces cause rejection of photos.
If you wear eyeglasses every day, you may keep them while capturing a photo for a Lithuanian passport but it is not recommended. If you do, make sure that their frames do not obscure your eyes and do not drop shadows on your face. Any glares on glasses disqualify a photo. The glasses must be transparent - sunglasses and tinted glasses are prohibited.
In the passport photo you cannot pose in the head covered by a fashioned headgear, for example, a cap, a hat or a headband. However, if you cover your head for religious reasons and you travel internationally with the head covering, you may keep it while capturing a photo for your passport. But there are some rules about head coverings in the Lithuanian passport photo: they cannot obscure your face or drop shadows on the skin. Useful tip for you: do not wear headgear in the same color as the color of the background (white).
There are not any recommendations set by authorities about clothing in passport pictures in Lithuania. There is only one general rule for all passport photos: the candidate must not wear uniforms nor any clothes in army patterns like moro which can resemble uniforms.
So you may dress like you feel comfortable. A simple blouse with a collar or V-neck is our recommendation. If you like jewellery, you can put on a necklace and a small pair of earrings. Wearing massive earrings or hair decorations is not recommended as they can obscure the face oval and in such a case your picture will be not accepted.
Remember that the face must be clearly visible, and if you wear a head covering, it must not cover the face line.
The photo dedicated to a Lithuanian passport must show your natural skin tones and the real color of your eyes. So it obviously must be in color, not mono-chromatic. This last part is also important because the “red eyes” effect caused by the flash lamp disqualifies the picture. Do not use any color filters, do not attach a black and white picture. Instead of using a flash lamp, capture a picture during the day facing the window as the daylight is the best to illuminate your face correctly and evenly what is also required.
There is not a requirement to remove jewellery nor facial piercing in the photos taken for a Lithuanian passport but the general rule is that any item can obscure your face. So even jewellery and facial piercing are not prohibited and you are not obliged to remove it before capturing a picture, they must not obscure your facial features. Moreover, piercing must not give glare to your skin. If you see that it does, repeat a photo shot without piercing. With a smart Passport Photo Maker, you can take as many shots as you want and in the end, you pay only for the best one!
You must submit at least 2 printed photos. Sometimes, if you apply for a new passport outside of the Republic of Lithuania, the embassy or consulate-general may ask about 3 prints. Every time when you are applying in another country, check in the nearest consular mission of Lithuania about the exact requirements for your passport application.
But generally speaking, the photo must always be printed on matte or glossy photo quality paper, not be blurred, grainy, pixelated, or damaged. If the Lituanian Passport picture has any defects, marks, stamps or other patterns on it - it will be not accepted.
The photo must be properly exposed. Overexposed and underexposed pictures are not correct. The same rule applies to the contrast - too high or too low will disqualify your picture. The image must be also:
You can visit a professional photo studio that will provide you with a photo service. But this is expensive, time-consuming and... not necessary. You can take a passport photo on your own! Please remember that if the photo is not suitable, you will be requested to provide another one and the time of processing your bus pass application will be longer. So, how to be sure that the taken picture meets all the requirements?
