Taking your picture at home you may try many hairstyles and outfits and decide which one you like the most, try lights and makeup - all to capture the perfect photo you will look at for the next ten years. The action we call “take your I passport picture at home” can be funny and easy if have at your disposal:
In order to adjust your picture to the standards set for biometric photos, just upload the picture to the online passport photo tool and it will be adjusted automatically to the official requirements. The photo editor based on Artificial Intelligence will change the background, crop, and resize the image in a moment.
In the end, Artificial Intelligence verifies your photo and once the tool accepts it, that means that the picture has a warranty of being accepted also by Jamaican passport offices and diplomatic missions worldwide. The ready image saved in the JPEG file will be sent to your e-mail address. You will be able to download and print in a one-hour photo service, for example. Of course, you can use the same photo many times, to the other documents, if you like.
Every photo dedicated to any official document, such as a passport, an ID card, diploma, etc. must represent the real and current look of a candidate. A passport photo, in order to be valid, must be captured less than 6 months prior to submitting the application.
It also must be original. “Originality” requirement is about computer software interference. Do not process your picture with Photoshop or any computer programs. Do not use filters nor graphic tools to retouch flaws or skin blemishes. Do not correct it with Photoshop or other graphic programs.
Artificial intelligence is able to recognize any kind of interference and such a photo is automatically disqualified.
In order to keep the originality don't cut out the crop from the bigger photo.
The correct size of the Jamaica passport photo is 35 mm in width x 45 mm in height.
The photo must clearly show the candidate's facial features from the tip of the chin to the top of the head as well as both sides of the face. The face’s height must be between 25 and 35 mm. That does not include the hair.
There must be a minimum of 2 mm space left between the top of the head (including hair) and the top of the photo. In the crop, all your head with hair, neck and the upper part of the shoulders must be visible. Does it sound difficult to you? If yes, don’t think about how to obtain this perfect crop and resize your picture! Upload your picture to the Jamaican Passport Photo Resizing App and have it instantly resized and cropped!
The background in the Jamaica Passport Picture must be clear and plain. No shadows, patterns, other people, or objects must be visible in your visa photo. The acceptable color of the background is white or light pastel shades. The acceptable colours are different hues of:
But you do not need to worry about it. You can take a picture against any background, even in your room or kitchen, and just use our Jamaica passport photo background editor which changes any background into the required one.
You must pose to your biometric photo a little bit as to a mugshot. That means that you should stay straight standing against the camera, not tilt your head in any direction and look straight at the camera lens. You shouldn’t be too far and not too close just to make sure that all your head and the top of your shoulders are in the crop.
The recommended distance is 0,5 m from the background and approximately 1,5 m from the camera. The passport photo must show the full front view of the head (the only an en-face view is acceptable), with the face in the middle of the image. If you decide to use a Jamaican Passport Photo Generator, your head will be positioned properly and the picture will be checked in terms of correctness, so it eliminates the risk of submitting a wrong photo!
As mentioned above, the biometric passport photo reminds a mugshot. You have to keep a neutral facial expression in it.
So, do not smile in the photo of your Jamaican passport. Have a neutral facial expression with your mouth closed and eyes open. Smiling, frowning and making faces would disqualify the picture. Some people do not like the fact that they must not smile but that’s the requirement and it is demanded to facilitate the process of machine-reading of photos. Smiling might distort face recognition, that’s why it is not allowed.
Before submitting your photo, if it satisfies all standards. Or better let it be checked by an online Jamaican Passport Photo Validator. We offer you assistance with creating a passport photo and check if it meets all the demanding.
You need to remember about the quality requirements - that means that your photo must be:
Please keep in mind that you must not take a selfie or use a webcam to take the picture.
The requirement about lights in the Jamaica passport photo is that the face must be evenly illuminated on both sides. There must not be any shadows on your face. How to do that? Do not use a flash lamp because it causes glares (they are unacceptable too) on the skin and sometimes may provoke a “red eyes effect” - when the eyes look unnaturally red.
Such photos are always rejected because this is not the natural eye color. The best light is the daylight. We advise you to stand facing the window or use a distracted light source. Remember that a photo must be properly exposed - not overlit or underlit.
This is not forbidden to wear eyeglasses in the photo for the Jamaican Passport. You can keep them but keep in mind that the frames must not cover your eyes (the eyes must be fully visible). Massive frames obscuring the big part of the face are unacceptable as they can drop the shadow on your skin. Glasses must not be tinted or dark (like sunglasses) and cannot give a reflection.
This is allowed to pose for the passport photo in Jamaica in headgear but only in the situation when it is a part of religious attire. Any fashion head coverings such as for example headbands, hats or baseball caps are prohibited. If you decide to keep your head covering (like hijab or yarmulke etc.), do not forget to fill out a dedicated section of the passport application form.
The other condition of keeping your headgear in the Jamaica passport photo is to make sure that this item does not obscure your face. Your facial features must be clearly visible in the photo.
There are some rules about clothing in Jamaican passport photos.
Shoulders and chest must be covered. Do not pose in a tank top, avoid a low neckline.
As we can read on official websites, applicants of dark complexion should wear coloured clothing and candidates of light complexion should avoid wearing white clothing. This is more a suggestion than a requirement but by applying, you can look good and not blend into the background. Our advice is also to wear headgear in color contrasting to the background. For a proper contrast, wear headgear in color contrasting to the background, as mentioned above.
Accessories such as big jewellery items or hair decorations are not recommended as massive earrings (for example) might obscure your face oval and in such a case your picture will be rejected. Huge hair decorations and scarves are not welcomed. If you have facial piercing, you do not need to remove them for a photo, but these items must not give a shadow or glare on your skin and cover your facial features. Our suggestion, if you like jewellery, is to pick up some small earrings or a necklace. It looks elegant and it is absolutely allowed in the passport photos.
If you want to get your passport quickly and without problems, make sure that you filled out the application correctly and you attached two identical photographs matching the requirements list. If you do not do it properly then your application will be rejected, and you will have to start all over again which means the waste of time and might impact your travel plans. To avoid troubles, know the most commonly made mistakes list:
Sometimes this is easier to remember what NOT TO DO, so we present a shortlist of MUSTN'Ts in the Jamaica passport picture.
