The dimensions (the size and the crop) of passport photographs is extremely important. Do not submit incorrectly sized or cropped photos! If you do, your application will be denied and you will have to repeat the application process.
The required dimensions in the Argentine Republic for a passport photo are exactly 40 mm x 40 mm. You must leave at least 5 mm of space between the top of the head and the upper edge of the photo. The head must be positioned in the middle of the image. It cannot be too big or too small; preferably about 70% of the whole image. If you’re not sure your picture is an exact match to these specifications, we’ll make it easy for you. Go to the Passport Photo Online App and have it done! Once you upload the picture, our program automatically resizes and crops the image to the required dimensions.
Maybe you already have passport photos and you’re wondering if you can use them for your new passport application. The answer is: only if the photo was taken within the last six (6) months. If it’s older than six months, you have to take a new picture. A biometric passport picture must reflect your current appearance.
Once you get your passport-style photo made with our Argentinian Passport Photo Maker, you can use it as many times as you like during the next six months. Do you want to apply for an ID card together with your passport? Will you need a visa to visit another country? No problem! After ordering a photo template on our website, you receive it via email in JPEG format. You can then have printed as many copies as you like, or simply upload it for all your online applications.
In order to successfully complete your passport application in Argentina, you must submit two (2) identical color photo prints taken within the last six (6) months, sized 40 mm x 40 mm. There are other requirements, rules and regulations as well. Read the article below to learn about:
Your Argentinian passport photo must have a white background. The background must be uniform, clear and clean: no shadows or patterns on the wall, no other people or visible objects within the frame. With our smart passport photo background editor, you can take your picture against any background, even in your bedroom or kitchen, and we will turn it into the perfect plain white background.
A biometric photo is supposed to show your actual, natural skin tones and the real color of your hair and eyes. Your face must be evenly illuminated on both sides; shadows on part of the face will disqualify the picture. You must not be over lit or under lit. The best way to get a correctly exposed photo showing your natural colors is to use daylight. Don’t use a flash because the flash can cause the “red-eye” effect, which is unacceptable. (I hope red is not your natural eye color!)
Here are some universal rules about shot composition and head position for biometric photos:
Wearing headgear in biometric photos is generally not allowed, but there are some exemptions.
If a hijab, headscarf, yarmulke or other head covering is part of your religion or your traditional cultural attire and you wear it every day, then you can keep it on while capturing a photo for your Argentinian Passport. You are not obliged to prove your religion in such cases. Just remember that your full facial features must be visible in the picture. Headscarves or other headgear must not obscure your face or cast a shadow on it.
Fashion head covering like hats, caps, headbands and sweatbands are forbidden in official document photos. Large hair accessories such as ribbons, bandanas and scarves must be taken off, too, as they will obscure the shape of your face.
The first rule about glasses in formal documentaries is that they must be transparent. Sunglasses and tinted glasses are always forbidden, even when prescribed by a doctor for medical reasons.
If you wear eyeglasses every day, you may keep them while capturing a photo for an Argentinian passport but it’s not recommended. The frames may obscure your eyes or cast shadows on your face. Any glare on the lenses will also disqualify a photograph. So if it’s not necessary to keep your glasses on, consider taking them off just to be safe.
Jewelry (including facial piercing) in passport photos is allowed as long as these items do not obscure your facial features. Huge earrings that touch the facial oval cannot be worn, but small pieces of jewelry are accepted. If facial piercings are something you wear permanently, you do not need to remove them as long as they don’t cover your features and they don’t cast a glare on your skin. There are no rules about necklaces or chains—it’s no problem if you like massive necklaces.
There are no special rules about hairstyles in passport photos in Argentina except that your hair must not cover your face. If you have long hair and you wear it loose, you may want to pull it back or put it behind your ears. If you have a voluminous hairstyle, consider wearing your hair up. Don’t forget about the spare space that must be left between the crown of your head and the top edge of the photo. Men are not required to shave their beard for an Argentina passport photo.
You might feel overwhelmed by all these requirements and all this information. Don’t worry! It’s really very easy to get the perfect photo for your Argentinian passport.

In Argentina, the institution authorized to issue passports to its citizens is the National Registry for People (ReNaPer). Previously passports were issued by the Argentine Federal Police (up to 2011).
Argentinians can travel holding their passports all over the world, but they need visas to some countries. They can visit every country of South America except the Guyanas only with their National Identity Document (DNI) – no passport for Argentinians is needed here.
According to international law, Argentine passports are biometric (machine-readable with the electronic chip containing the personal data and biodata of its holder).
As with every other biometric passport, the Argentine one has the e-passport symbol at the bottom.
It contains a data page with a machine-readable zone and a digital photograph of the passport holder. All the information is written in 2 languages: Spanish and English. The information written in the passport is:
If you want to apply for an Argentinian passport
In order to get an Argentine passport, you need to go to the nearest Civil Registry and show the following documents:
The proof of the marital status can be a marriage certificate, or marriage certificate with the divorce sentence written out in the margin, or a death certificate, issued by the Argentine relevant authorities.
If you are an Argentine citizen by naturalisation rather than by birth, you must also submit a Citizenship Certificate (Carta de ciudadanía). Children under the age of 18 cannot apply in their name – they may get a passport with parental authorization.
If you live outside Argentina, you have to apply for your passport in the nearest consular mission (embassy or consulate-general) of Argentina, but the procedure of application remains the same.
Once you submit all the documents, you must also pay the passport fee. Then, your application will be processed and you will receive your passport via postal mail within 15 days (usually).
