Everything you need to know about hair and beard for a Thai Passport photo

People with bangs should pay attention that no hair covers their face. As for people with big hair, we recommend you to not let it go outside the photo edge as it can get your photos rejected. We advise you to tie it back.

There is nothing specified regarding beards in the Thai Passport photo requirements. Therefore, if you wear one on a daily basis, it is perfectly acceptable for you to take your Passport photo with your beard on.

Dress code for your Thai Passport photo

You can wear what you want - and you should opt for something either casual or elegant. Avoid wearing light-colored clothing or uniforms as it could get your application rejected.

Another advice, you should not wear a tank top, otherwise you will look naked, and it is not the best idea for an official photo you are going to show repeatedly for ten years.

The validity of the photo and recent changes in appearance

You must attach two similar pictures taken in the last 6 months to your Thai passport submission. Maybe you already have a template and want to use it for this purpose? You can do this, just make sure the picture is no older than 6 months old.

However, if your appearance has changed drastically over this time, you need to send a new image. Cutting or dyeing your hair or growing your beard doesn't require a new photo. Often, children and juveniles under 16 years of age are not expected to have a new picture of the Thai Passport even though they have changed during the normal development process. But there are several situations where this is mandatory. Please submit a new picture if:

• You've made a gender change.
• You underwent a facial plastic surgery
• You experienced a permanent facial deformation
• You've added or removed tattoos / piercing on your face.
• You've lost / gained a large amount of weight.

Children and Biometric Photo Passport Thailand 

Even children need their own Thai passport when they are leaving Thailand with their parents, family or friends. Their age doesn’t matter. Children are not exempt from these rules. Every child is also required to have an individualised Passport photo of them taken within the past 6 months. Getting a correct Passport photo of small children can be quite a challenge but it is a must when you are applying for a Thai e-passport. • Children must be on their own in the picture with no other objects or people. Toys, bottles and pacifiers or any other objects cannot be photographed with your child
• Babies should not be holding toys or using dummies. 
• Children under 6 don’t have to be looking directly at the camera or have a neutral expression.
• Children under 1 don’t have to have their eyes open. If their head is supported by a hand, the hand mustn’t be visible in the photo. 
• The child can be placed on the floor or you can have them sit in a car seat to assure a good position.

• Smile or make a funny face - Unfortunately, if you smile on your passport photo, it will get rejected. You should look the same way people look on a mugshot - neutral/serious: it is wise to look as smart and as respectable as you can.
• Digital retouching to alter or enhance your facial features - you are not allowed to use any photo editor software like photoshop to alter your appearance nor are you allowed to use a filter on the official photo - it should reflect your true appearance and your true colors :)
• Passport photos which are creased, have staple holes or otherwise marked.
