More about Singapore Visa Photo - Requirements

Singapore visa photo requirements

If you want to apply for a Singapore visa, you must submit the application form and one photograph. This photo must meet certain requirements to be accepted. Do you know how they are?

We have prepared for you a complete Singapore visa photo guide, so now you do not to be worried that your picture will be rejected! Prepare a correct photo and increase your chance to obtain your Singapore visa!

Singapore visa photo size and colors

A required Singapore visa photo size is 45 mm X 35mm in size (height x width). Your face size must be 80% of the photograph.

Only photos in color will be accepted as the picture must represent your natural skin tones and eye color. Also for this reason the effect of “red eyes” will cause a rejection of the picture. Remember, that you must not retouche it as any interference in the picture is also forbidden. “Red eyes” effect appears when a photo is taken with a flash, so in order to avoid it, take the picture with natural light (daily light is highly recommended). You may not either wear coloured contact lenses.

If you are wearing a head covering for religious or medical reasons, it should be dark in color against white background.

As indicated above the background’s color must be white. Any other colors, patterns or shadows are not accepted. As obtaining the pure white color in a picture may be not easy, use a dedicated visa photo editor which removes an incorrect background and changes it into a required one.

Digital photo format and dimensions for Singapore Visa

The required dimension for a digital Singaporean visa is 35 x 45 mm. In inches this is 1,38’’ x 1,7’’ photo.

There are also some technical photo requirements for a digital Singapore visa photo:

    • Format: jpg file extension
    • Size: maximum of 60 KB

Notice that the photo 35x45 mm and size approximately 60 KB (but no more) has a resolution 827 x 1063 pixeles. You cannot interfere in the picture with any computer software.

Singapore visa photo specification

A Singapore visa application photo must be taken within the 3 last months as it must represent your current appearance. Make sure that it is clear, focused and not pixelated.

In the photo you must:

  • have your head straight, not tilted
  • look straightly at the camera
  • have a neutral face expression
  • keep your both eyes open and mouths closed

You must not wear sunglasses or tinted glasses in your Singapore visa picture. It is highly recommended to take off your everyday eyeglasses. If you want to keep them, you can, but make sure that they do not give a glare or do not cover your eyes. Your eyes and pupils must be clearly visible.

Singapore visa photo requirements in terms of originality

It is underlined that your Singapore visa photo must be original. It means that it cannot be:

  • cut off from a bigger image
  • distorted or flipped
  • pixelated
  • altered using computer software or computer app
  • unnaturally colored

Of course you can take your visa photo with your smartphone, just do not use any filters or beautifying apps. Use of Photoshop and other graphic processing programs is not allowed.

What is not allowed in a Singapore visa photo?

Be aware that if you fail to meet requirements about Singapore visa photo, your application probably will be rejected and you will need to start again all the process of applying. To avoid this, we invite you to read a short guide about what not to do while taking a picture for a visa.

You photo must not be:

  • taken more 3 months earlier
  • altered or enhanced by Photoshop or any other computer software
  • printed on reflective finish ( it must be matte or semi matte)
  • be a selfie as selfies usually are not correct and are rejected

In terms of your look and composition in the picture you must not:

  • tilt your head
  • position your head not centrally
  • look sideway
  • have your eyes closed
  • have your mounts open
  • smile or make faces
  • have sunglasses or tinted glasses
  • have everyday glasses which cover your eyes or give a glare
  • have a head gear (the exceptions are religious and medical reasons)

Every person entering Singapore must present a visa crossing the border. It also applies to babies and children, so if you travel with them, you need to submit a photo for them too. General requirements for a child’s visa photo remain the same as for adults, so make sure that in the picture:

  • the baby or child is facing forward
  • you are not visible, even if you hold a child
  • any other objects as toys, bottles etc. are not visible
  • the background is plain and white

To make it easier you can take a picture of your newborn or baby on any background, f.ex. while it is sitting in a car carrier or stroller. Don’t worry about an unsuitable background. Just use a visa photo editor which automatically removes the wrong background and changes it into a desired one.

About the document

What is a Singapore visa?

A Singapore visa is a pre-entry permission you can apply for before you cross the Singaporean border. It does not guarantee your entrance to this country, you will be checked by the immigration officers and they will make the final decision about it.

There is a large list of countries whose citizens are allowed to come to Singapore without a visa.

Anyway, if your country is not on the free-entrance list you need the visa if you want to travel there, also you need to meet some requirements of the Singaporean government.

But the application process is simple and fast. You can apply online, at any time, but not later than 30 days before your planned arrival to Singapore.

Singapore tourist visa requirements

The most commonly asked Singaporean visa is a Visit Pass (tourist visa) valid up to 30 days within a 90 days period. The candidate can do it online, through a local Singaporean contact or a strategic partner, using ICA’s e-Service or at a Singaporean diplomatic mission.

In order to get your visa, you need to fill in a Singapore visa application form and sign it yourself. You also must prepare:

  • passport valid at least 6 months after the planned date of leaving Singapore
  • copy of a passport’s bio data in an A4 format
  • copy of the airline ticket or travel itinerary in A4 format
  • passport-size visa photo meeting indicated requirements
  • credit card (only VISA or MasterCard)
  • letter of introduction from your Singapurean contact
  • Yellow Fever vaccination proof if you were in the country from the list published on Singapore government sites

Before applying, check if your country is on the freely entered list. Submit the application only if not.

Types of visas for Singapore

Basically, there are two types of Singapore visas: Multiple and Single Journey Visa. There are  also different types of Passes as below:

  • Short Term Visit Pass ( for a short visit, for tourism, or medical reasons)
  • Work Passes and Permits
  • Dependent’s Pass for the family members of the Employment Pass holder
  • Long-Stay Visit Pass
  • Student Pass
  • Visa-Free Transit Facility – a Singapore transit visa allowing citizens from the specified countries list to leave the transit area of the airport and stay in Singapore for up to 96 hours while they wait for a connecting flight

Remember that if you enter via a Singapore tourist visa, you are not allowed to take up any work there.

Other visas category are: multiple and single journey visas. What is the difference between them? The Single Journey Visa can only be used once. After leaving Singapore, you cannot travel there with that visa again as is not valid any more. If you want to come back to Singapore, you must apply for a new entrance document.

The Multiple Journey Visa can be used multiple times for as long as it is valid. You can enter and leave Singapore without any limits till the visa expiration date.

Singapore tourist visa for the US citizens

The United States citizens can enter Singapore without a visa as a via-exempt national. Americans can stay in Singapore without a visa for a maximum of 90 days. If you want to stay longer, you need to apply  for a Singapore tourist visa extension before your valid visa expires. Or you may ask for another type of visa. Please keep in mind that staying more than 90 days in Singapore without an appropriate travelling document will be punished.

Who does need to apply for a Singaporean visa?

Singapore is a very open country and the majority of citizens of the world’s countries can cross its border without a visa.

Remember about the visa processing fee you are obliged to pay.

You receive your Singapore visa - what’s next?

After one or three days of waiting (in general) you receive your Singapore visa. At this moment you or your partner can print a paper copy of the e-Visa.
