How to get the Schengen Italy visa?

First of all, you need to decide which type of visa you need. In other words, what is the reason you are going to visit Italy? It is important because there are different requirements for each other type of visas.

You can apply for:

  • An Italy Schengen visa is needed to visit your friends and family or for tourism;
  • An Italy Business Visa: to attend a meeting or conference, meet with clients, conduct business, visit a partner company, etc.;
  • An Italy Visa for sportive/cultural/religious events;
  • The Italy Medical Visa if you need to travel to Italy to get medical treatment in an Italian medical institution.

Secondly, you have to pick an application at the right time. You have to apply for a visa at the earliest six months before your planned trip and the latest two weeks before your planned travel. Keep in mind that Italian institutions have at least three weeks to proceed with your application. Make sure you have all the needed documents, too.

Next step is the time to book a meeting with a representative of Italy, who will verify your application. You’d better be on time and wear a bit more official clothes because this officer will make a positive or negative decision about your visa.

If all of the above steps resulted in success, it is time to pay obligatory fees. Currently, all adults have to pay €80 (about 95 dollars) for an Italy Schengen visa, whereas minors aged 6-12 pay a reduced fee of €40 (about 48 dollars). For minors under 6, the visa is free of charge.

After that, you need to wait about 2-3 weeks for the final decision. If your Italy visa application was accepted, you will be sent a sticker on your passport, which allows you to travel around the Schengen Area for a maximum of 90 days. If your Italy visa application is rejected, you will get a letter with a decision and possible ways to get the application accepted. In this situation, you have to prepare a new application and pay fees again.
