No, this is much easier than you may think! Every day thousands of people worldwide decide to save their time and money and take the passport photo at home instead of tracking down photo booths or professional photo studios.
With the little help of our photo app based on artificial intelligence, you are perfectly able to create a photo that is the same as a professionally taken one in terms of quality. Just check the requirements and have it done!
Taiwanese Visa Photo Background
The only one accepted background’s colour when you capture a photo dedicated to a Taiwanese Visa is white. Any other colors, patterns or shadows are not accepted and will cause a rejection of the application. But it does not mean that you have to paint your wall now! Just use a dedicated Taiwanese visa background photo editor which removes an incorrect background and changes it into a white one in one second. This is allowed and accepted but use a professional tool, do not do it with Photoshop! You can find a visa photo background remover in the AppStore or in the Google Play Store.
Size and crop of the Taiwanese Visa Photo
The correct size of a photo for a visa to Taiwan is 35 mm in length x 45 mm in height. Be careful if you take your visa picture in the US - the standard size of the US visa photo and the US passport photos is 2 x 2 inches, and it is not suitable for a Taiwanese visa.
When it comes to the crop, the head must fill in 70 - 80% of the image. The head image cannot measure less than 32 mm and more than 36 mm.
The visa photo crop must show the candidate’s all face with hair from the tip of the chin to the top of the head, neck, and upper part of the shoulders. The face should be well visible and there must be a space left between your head and the photo’s edges.
You will obtain this effect if you keep a distance of 1,20 - 2 metres between you and a photographer. Or you can take your picture how you like and then upload it to the Taiwan Visa Photo Cropping App. And have it done in 3 seconds!
Colouring and lighting in the Taiwanese Visa Photo
Taiwanese Visa photos must be biometric as photos for passports in all the countries nowadays.
Biometric photos must be in colour in order to represent your natural skin tones and eye color. That means that black and white images, filtered photos or those with unnatural colors (like too much red or blue) will be rejected as not meeting requirements.
Moreover, the effect of “red eyes” - as not natural eye color - is unacceptable too. As you probably know, the “red eyes” effect is caused by a flash lamp, so in order to avoid it, take the picture with distracting light. Daylight is highly recommended. If you take a picture facing the window, you can avoid skin reflections and your face is evenly illuminated. Bear in mind that any shadows on the face or background are unacceptable. If you see the shadows on the background, you can use a Visa Photo Background Remover to obtain a clear, white one.
Clothing in the Taiwan visa picture
You can dress as you like capturing your photo because there is no such thing as a dress-code in Taiwanese Visa pictures. We only recommend wearing a white-collar shirt, V-neck top or dress - you will look good in the photo crop, but this is not mandatory. If you wear a hijab or a headscarf for religious purposes, choose a colour different from white in order to obtain a satisfying contrast and you do not blend into the background.
Smiling and posing in the Taiwanese (ROC) Visa picture
The general rule for biometric photos is that you must not smile in them. The specification calls it “a neutral face expression”. It means that you have to close your mouths (but don’t tighten them), open your eyes and relax your facial muscles. Look straight at the camera. Do not tilt your head in any direction, make sure that the camera lens is on the level of your eyes. Smiling, frowning or making grimaces cause rejection of photos.
Rules about posing in the Taiwanese Visa photo in a nutshell:
- The en-face view is mandatory.
- The head must be located in the central spot of the picture.
- The head must stay straight (not be tilted in any direction).
- The mouth must close (you must not show teeth).
- The candidate must look straight at the camera.
- Smiling is not allowed (the only natural facial expression is allowed).
Head coverings in the photo of visa to Taiwan (ROC)
According to rules for biometric photos, covering the head in the Taiwan Visa picture is forbidden.
But there are some exemptions: if you wear your religious attire every day, you can wear it in your Taiwanese visa photo too. That means that you may keep your hijab, turban, yarmulke, or other headgear worn for religious reasons. You do not have to submit any special confirmation of your affiliation to a specific religious community.
However, if you keep your headgear, make sure that it does not obscure your face and its features are clearly visible from the front to the chin. No shadow can cast on your skin.
Keep in mind that fashion head coverings (caps, hats, headbands) are prohibited. Niquabs in the passport-style photos are prohibited too.
Eyeglasses in the Taiwan Visa photo
If you wear glasses every day, you may keep them capturing a photo for a visa to Taiwan. Just make sure that your eyes are not blocked and the frames of the glasses do not cover your pupils or give any glare. You must not wear tinted glasses and sunglasses. Avoid massive frames because if the glasses frames obscure your eyes - the photo will not be accepted.
Validity and originality of the Visa to Taiwan photo
Your photo of the Taiwanese visa must be valid and original. “Valid” means that it must not be older than 6 months. Take a new picture also in the situation when your appearance has changed significantly (for example due to facial surgery). Another hairstyle or a beard is not that case.
A few words about “originality”:
- graphic interference in the picture by Photoshop or other computer software is forbidden.
- you must not retouch your picture, correct colors, and put on any filters.
- using a background removing professional tool is allowed.
Remember that the candidate's pictures are verified by artificial intelligence and if it detects any graphical interference, the photo will be rejected.
Jewellery and accessories in a Taiwanese Visa photo
If you have a permanent facial piercing you do not have to remove it to the needs of a ROC visa photo.
You may wear it and jewellery too as long as these items do not obscure any part of your face. Quit wearing big or shiny earrings instead as there can’t be any reflection on your face and they may cause them. Take off headbands or massive, decorative hair accessories as they can obscure your face.
Accessories such as wireless headphones, free-hand tools, etc. are forbidden but if you wear a hearing device, you may pose with it.
