The correct size of a photo for a visa to Taiwan is 35 mm in length x 45 mm in height. Be careful if you take your visa picture in the US - the standard size of the US visa photo and the US passport photos is 2 x 2 inches, and it is not suitable for a Taiwanese visa.

When it comes to the crop, the head must fill in 70 - 80% of the image. The head image cannot measure less than 32 mm and more than 36 mm. 

The visa photo crop must show the candidate’s all face with hair from the tip of the chin to the top of the head, neck, and upper part of the shoulders. The face should be well visible and there must be a space left between your head and the photo’s edges.

Colouring and lighting in the Taiwanese Visa Photo

Taiwanese Visa photos must be biometric as photos for passports in all the countries nowadays.

Biometric photos must be in colour in order to represent your natural skin tones and eye color. That means that black and white images, filtered photos or those with unnatural colors (like too much red or blue) will be rejected as not meeting requirements.

Moreover, the effect of “red eyes” - as not natural eye color - is unacceptable too. You can dress as you like capturing your photo because there is no such thing as a dress-code in Taiwanese Visa pictures. According to rules for biometric photos, covering the head in the Taiwan Visa picture is forbidden.

But there are some exemptions: if you wear your religious attire every day, you can wear it in your Taiwanese visa photo too. That means that you may keep your hijab, turban, yarmulke, or other headgear worn for religious reasons. You do not have to submit any special confirmation of your affiliation to a specific religious community.

However, if you keep your headgear, make sure that it does not obscure your face and its features are clearly visible from the front to the chin. No shadow can cast on your skin.

Keep in mind that fashion head coverings (caps, hats, headbands) are prohibited. Niquabs in the passport-style photos are prohibited too.

Your photo of the Taiwanese visa must be valid and original. “Valid” means that it must not be older than 6 months. Take a new picture also in the situation when your appearance has changed significantly (for example due to facial surgery). Another hairstyle or a beard is not that case.

A few words about “originality”:

You may wear it and jewellery too as long as these items do not obscure any part of your face. Quit wearing big or shiny earrings instead as there can’t be any reflection on your face and they may cause them. Take off headbands or massive, decorative hair accessories as they can obscure your face.
